Additions and Conversions form a significant part of our work. A recent extension project showcased our comprehensive service package, covering the entire process from architectural designs, to consent, the build, and following up on the code of compliance once the job was completed.
In cases where clients embarked on a large home extension, such as adding a new living space, Irne and the team provided patient guidance and were able to suggest ideas on how to improve the initial concepts. For one family with a newborn baby, the team accommodated their living situation, ensuring their living space was not disrupted until absolutely necessary. We emphasize excellent communication, keeping clients well-informed of what was happening and what was due to happen in the following days or week, ensuring there were no surprises.
Coupling this expertise, we frequently tackle ancillary structures like carports and double garages. Our skills in conversions have been praised, particularly when a garage was converted into a granny flat. This conversion utilised high-end finishes, resulting in a space that did not look like a flat at all, demonstrating our ability to deliver within a reasonable budget and at a good speed. This experience directly translates into designing and constructing new, bespoke garage and carport additions that seamlessly integrate with the existing home.

This month also celebrates the completion of a full interior renovation project. We took a very original 1960s brick house and extensively renovated it to bring it into the 21st century. This demanding project required speed and efficiency, and we delivered the renovation within both budget and time.
The results of such a thorough renovation are transformative: the dismantling of poky little rooms and passages, replaced by an open internal flow, a modern kitchen, a modern bathroom, and great outdoor flow. When undertaking such detailed interior work, which can range from painting and carpets to general repairs, our staff—who are all qualified builders or tradesmen—handle the complexities. The installation of a new feature, such as a fireplace, is incorporated into the overall renovation plan, demonstrating the craftsmanship for which Irne is noted, ensuring the feature is not only functional but aesthetically elevates the new internal space.

Although working within a strict budget that precluded the most glamorous finishes, Retro Construction was able to design the space in a way that created much-needed extra floor space and packing space—doing things the client would not have thought about themselves. The result was a neat, tidy, and still modern bathroom, proving we can help clients achieve their goals within the financial constraints they have.
