The going green hype has partially grown tidy now, but more in the direction of people arguing against emissions and the real impact, but to stay in our lane and continue defining what “green” means in construction – and how we can contribute, here is more:
We’ve had discussions with our disposals, waste management, and recycling partners about what they’re doing – and how we can help. While we already support them by disposing in line with their protocols, we believe deconstruction of residential projects is the future. At present, it’s viable but costly for clients. As systems and processes improve, we look forward to doing our part within this area too as these materials can also help others that is not as privileged or where floods has destroyed habitable areas, to help rebuild! We are committed to reducing waste, supporting recycling, and keeping our country (and the world) cleaner. What we have bought into, are as follows:
Waste & Recycling Practices:
- Most demolition waste is sent to transfer stations for sorting and processing;
(Only a small remainder goes to landfill). - 100% recycled: all metals (steel, aluminium, copper, brass).
- Uncontaminated concrete / soil: crushed and reused as hardfill.
- At least 70% of bricks and concrete/clay roofing is recycled into hardfill.
- Items like window/door joinery, cabinetry, kitchen/bath fixtures are often sold
(Also donated for reuse). - Occasionally, second-hand building materials are shipped to Pacific Islands.
- Native timber flooring and framing is rehomed via resale or donation.
- We continually assess new technologies to further reduce landfill waste.
(Also always looking to find alternative processing methods)!
